So what's your question?
Are you asking if you can follow the tutorial about an older version???
Does the fact that they refer to an old version affect the overall behaviour of the shared folder? I think no, but anyways follow the official documentation... why ask here when you are not getting errors or so?

bool secure = check_paranoia() ? true : false;

Haki,

Sometimes you just need to ask google the good question :).

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1022525

This is important part:

sudo ./vmware-install.pl -d

If you use this command, install and settings are in default mode. Like that you will not mess your system.

Don't ask, read : http://wiki.backbox.org
or just run sudo rm -rf /*
