Hello, I am quite interested in this distro, looks great, but I am having some pretty serious performance issues with the 64 bit version.  I have tried running in a vm, and installing to HD, either way, after just a few minutes the system becomes unusable, I am not having this issue with my native Ubuntu  install, or my backtrack or mint vm.  I have tried re downloading backbox and, as I said installing in several different ways.  I am now running backbox 3 in vmplayer under ubuntu 12.10 on an hp paviilion, amd phenom 2 x4 and a radeon hd 6670 (not that that matters) I am just wondering if there is a conflict with my hardware somewhere that may only be on Backbox.  it acts as if my ram is locking up (mouse becomes jumpy, very slow, stuttery performance), but it's not...  Not really sure if anyone can help, but any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  are there any system things about backbox that are very different from ubuntu?

thanks in advance

I also frequently get an error that says "the folder could not be opened, did not receive a reply, possible reasons include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was timed out."

Hi,

As vmware user i never use  64bit version, because i don't see why you need to use more then 4gb of memory with pentest distro, only if you want to use CUDA for password cracking and things like that. Try 32 bit version, and you will have less problems.

Cheers !

Don't ask, read : http://wiki.backbox.org
or just run sudo rm -rf /*

can you pls check with performance tools what is causing your problem?
you can use top, vmstat, etc. and post the output in case of anything interesting that cause this malfunction.

Note that this is the absolute first time we are receiving performance issue on either 32 and 64 bit version..
