I am following a book called "Kali linux network scanning cook book" However, i am using backbox because it seems the better choice for my needs at the moment.

It seems that each security distro has some of the same tools but some are not the same. I know i will need scapy, metasploit2, nesus and a few other scanners. Is it possible to install the network scanners i will need?

OH sorry, i just BARELY installed backbox so i have not had to time to see everything it has. Sorry for my lack of ambition at the moment. Calc 3 is kicking my butt and i teach highschool hahaha

Thanks for the help guys

Hi There,
BackBox is, same as all of the rest of Linux distros, free and open, which means you can do whatever you'd like to do and install any tool you prefer.

The reason that you don't find a number of tools in BackBox compared to other Pentest distro is that BB applies a particular process in selecting tools to include in its default image and also repository. With this I mean the attention is mostly towards to tools that hjave similar functions (different way but the result is likely the same). We call it redundancies or duplicates.

We don't really like to fill BB with all security tools around the world but we do include tools that really makes sense for a pentester perspective.

Furthermore, BB doesn't include any commercial products, all tools are open and community version but again, everyone is free to install whatever the wish.

Enjoy
