I tried running macchanger via the GUI, several times, and each time the result showed
my original  mac address, then "permanent" mac address and they were the same.

I then tried

sudo ifconfig wlan0 down

then tried macchanger again, same result.

So then I tried the terminal commands to manually change  it and got this result:

$ sudo macchanger --mac=BB:BB:BB:AA:AA:AA wlan0
Current MAC:   54:35:30:59:d6:6b (Hon Hai Precision Ind. Co.,Ltd.)
Permanent MAC: 54:35:30:59:d6:6b (Hon Hai Precision Ind. Co.,Ltd.)
[ERROR] Could not change MAC: interface up or insufficient permissions: Cannot assign requested address

I made sure to put wlan0 down, and rechecked with ifconfig after to confirm it was down.

Then I tried:
$ sudo ip link set dev wlan0 address 23:26:24:45:99:90

and got:
RTNETLINK answers: Cannot assign requested address

I read several forums and articles, and most of the answers were "Be sure your device is not up".....
I did see a few people say that some  adapters don't support spoofing and can't be changed.

Does anyone know how I can find out if my  adapter does (it is a Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8188EE Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)
Perhaps there are open source drivers I can use instead that would support it? Not sure how that works...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
