Hi all,
I'm having problem with openvas.

With "openvas start" in Backbox menu:

Starting services...
* Restarting openvas-scanner openvassd                                  [ OK ]
* Restarting openvas-manager openvasmd                                  [ OK ]
* Restarting openvas-gsa gsad                                           [ OK ]

Do you want to rebuild NVT cache? [Y/n] > Y

Rebuilding NVT cache... failed.

Then I login in GSA (localhost:4000) and try to start a scan. I receive this error:

Results of last operation
Operation:    Start Task
Status code:    503
Status message:    Service temporarily down

As suggested on the openvas site I tryed with openvas-check-setup script:

openvas-check-setup 2.3.3
  [...]
Step 1: Checking OpenVAS Scanner ...
        OK: OpenVAS Scanner is present in version 5.0.7.
        OK: OpenVAS Scanner CA Certificate is present as /var/lib/openvas/CA/cacert.pem.
        OK: redis-server is present in version v=2.8.4.
        OK: scanner (kb_location setting) is configured properly using the redis-server socket: /var/run/redis/redis.sock
        OK: redis-server is running and listening on socket: /var/run/redis/redis.sock.
        OK: redis-server configuration is OK and redis-server is running.
        OK: NVT collection in /var/lib/openvas/plugins contains 50037 NVTs.
        WARNING: Signature checking of NVTs is not enabled in OpenVAS Scanner.
        SUGGEST: Enable signature checking (see http://www.openvas.org/trusted-nvts.html).
        OK: The NVT cache in /var/cache/openvas contains 50059 files for 50037 NVTs.
Step 2: Checking OpenVAS Manager ...
        OK: OpenVAS Manager is present in version 6.0.9.
        OK: OpenVAS Manager client certificate is present as /var/lib/openvas/CA/clientcert.pem.
        ERROR: No OpenVAS Manager database found. (Tried: /var/lib/openvas/mgr/tasks.db)
        FIX: Run 'openvasmd --rebuild' while OpenVAS Scanner is running.

I launched sudo openvasmd --rebuild, but I received no messages.

Then I re-started openvas with "openvas start", but I get the same error.

Any suggestions?

thank you

Hi,

Sometime their services have some downtime, wait for few hours-days, and try again.

Don't ask, read : http://wiki.backbox.org
or just run sudo rm -rf /*
