It's wrong to have 2 interfaces open right?

This just looks wrong to me - is it ok or should I kill wlan0 ?

cff9@CFF9:~$ sudo airmon-ng
[sudo] password for cff9:

Interface   Chipset      Driver

wlan1      RTL8187    rtl8187 - [phy0]
wlan0      Unknown    iwlwifi - [phy1]    <-------- THIS SHOULD BE KILLED I THINK ? ---->

Thanks!

airmon-ng has detected two because you have two yet none are in monitor mode
that being said both can be in monitor mode and be used

Just because you have two doesn't mean you can only use one its all depends on what you're doing

Yes your right about neither being used in mon mode

Interesting thing is that when I assigned wlan1 into monitor mode I disabled wlan0 and it dissapeared but then re-surfaced again a few seconds later.

I guess I am still trying to figure out what harm having two interfaces would have when doing a WPA2 crack/ Reaver

Disable ???

what do you mean by that because its not ifconfig wlan0 down as you wont see the device then

SO im guessing your putting both into monitor mode then taking one out of monitor mode !!!

just leave it use the device you want to use put that in monitor mode and continue your work
If you want to use the two USE THE TWO !!!!

That's good to know thanks.

I've had a look at the airmon-ng site to learn more. I guess my confusion is b/c when I watch tutorials etc, the presenter always seems just to have one interface which makes me think that I should too....

Its all experience......!
