Borked Xfce4 after update, and I'm locked out. Kinda.[SOLVED]

  Seems like every time I update something breaks :D. Earlier today, I received some updates via the Update Manager. I choose to upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04 (I believe was the version). When my machine rebooted, I noticed the login screen was different. A lot of light grey.

 At first when I logged in, it gave me a "unable to launch startxfce4" error dialog and it stated it would revert back to the default. I got in after saying ok. Although, the options to shutdown, suspend, etc via the panel were all grayed out and unusable. When I tried to logout via the panel, it gave me an error and didn't. Adding, the auditing and services submerses were missing from the applications menu.

 After a physical shutdown via the power button. Now when I enter my password at the login screen it flashes and returns to the login screen. I can still get through CTRL+ALT+F1, but I don't know how to fix this. My panel was highly customized so if there is a way I can do this without wiping everything that would be preferred.

I re installed xfce4 and went through every online solution I could find and it still won't let me in.

Figured I'd ask, but I'm formatting at this point. If you care to share, perhaps this will help someone in the future. I'm not doing that update this time around.

Hi,

That was not our update. You did that on your own. Did you add something to your /etc/apt/sources.list file? If yes, you messed your system with that. Playing with not supported updates is never good idea. If system use older xfce version it's because we have a reason. Can  you try upgrades? Sure but we can't guaranty that you will not have issues.

And there is no back from the point where are you now, because you have removed all settings you made before.

Yesterday, after I installed Backbox again. I was immediately prompted by the update manager with a new Ubuntu release. I believe it was titled Ubuntu 14.04 trusty. I'm not familiar with releases and updates so I'll just post what I have showing below. I really don't want to configure this again :D. Sorry, I've done it about 4 times this month across multiple drives.

Well, i'd say the problem was the upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty)...
If now it's ok tag [SOLVED].
