I have been trying to configure graphic card drivers since last 3 installs and every time the GUI becomes unstable and have to reinstall the BackBox Linux again and again. I have installed the AMDCatalyst drivers from AMD website.

Then I install fglrx but I am not able to use compiz with that.
Below is the result when I do fglrxinfo

X Error of failed request:  BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request:  157 (ATIFGLEXTENSION)
Minor opcode of failed request:  66 ()
Serial number of failed request:  13
Current serial number in output stream:  13

If I execute this cmd: lspci -nnk | grep -i vga -A3 | grep 'in use'
It does not shows any output.

Results of lspci | grep VGA:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Tahiti XT [Radeon HD 7970/8970 OEM / R9 280X]

Could you please let me what should I do :(

Hi,

For start, pls search Google for "Major opcode of failed request: 157 (ATIFGLEXTENSION)", Try post from ask ubuntu and see how things will go.

Don't ask, read : http://wiki.backbox.org
or just run sudo rm -rf /*
