First of all, I made this for users who want to have a possibility to use the power of their GPU instead of CPU. First, installing the Hashcat, it's not present in Backbox for default. Installation steps are

1. Make dir you want to install, for example mkdir -p ~/src
2. Enter to that directory cd ~/src
3. git clone
4. cd hashcat
5. git submodule update --init
6. make
7. sudo make install

Cached kernels, session files, restore- and pot-files etc. will go to $HOME/.hashcat/

John the Ripper

1. sudo apt-get remove john && sudo apt-get autoremove
2. cd ~/src (previously created directory, you may use anything other you want)
3. sudo apt-get install build-essential libssl-dev git
4. sudo apt-get install yasm libgmp-dev libpcap-dev pkg-config libbz2-dev
5. sudo apt-get install nvidia-opencl-dev
6. git clone git:// -b bleeding-jumbo john
7. cd ~/src/john/src
8. ./configure && make -s clean && make -sj4

Test your build
../run/john --test=0

Benchmark your build
../run/john --test

Optionaly you may add the john to $PATH
sudo vim ~/.profile
export PATH=/home/your_hostname/src/john/run:$PATH
<Esc> :wq
sudo reboot
