Hello!
I bought a new laptop Lenovo u430p (Haswell based, nvidia optimus) and installed my favourite Backbox Linux on it (release 3.09).
The first problem that I get is no wireless.

I have found some info on the Internet about solving the driver problems of this wireless controller and Ubuntu 12.04, but I have no success.
So could anyone help me to solve the problem?

Hi!
Can you past lsmod and dmesg please? There is a 3d made by ZEROF that explain what do you have to do and how to post question about wireless issue, try to search in the forum!

[edit] googling seems that you need to add the firmware intel 7260, did you do?

I did as sad in this topic http://askubuntu.com/questions/322511/no-wireless-with-intel-centrino-advanced-n-7260
QuoteAlthough you didn't confirm it from dmesg, it appears you need and lack the required firmware. Here is a link from my Dropbox: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/58267392/iwlwifi-7260-7.ucode.zip Please download it to your desktop. Right-click and select 'Extract Here.' Now open a terminal and do:

sudo cp Desktop/iwlwifi-7260-7.ucode /lib/firmware/
sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi
sudo modprobe iwlwifi

Do you have a wireless interface now?

iwconfig

Does it connect? Are there any informative messages here?

dmesg | grep iwl

colobos

What part of dmesg are you interesting in? It's too big to post it here...

b4d_bl0ck

Hi colobos,
as weVeg said you need the right driver for you wireless adapter.
Since dmesg is too long, you should use a pastebin website and give us the link, or directly from command line (if you dont need to edit sensible data):
dmesg | pastebinit
Also, are you sure you followed that guide? I can spot no iwlwifi module loaded in your lsmod output. Did you try loading it manually?
bool secure = check_paranoia() ? true : false;

Sorry, afrer my previous experiments I reinstalled the system. Now I repeated these steps:

ZEROF

Hi,

From what i can see driver need to be enable in kernel. Drivers and information can be found here:

http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi

And you installed drivers but they are not supported in your kernel (found online in same tutorial like you i guess):

I suggest you download this to your desktop: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/projects/backports/stable/v3.11-rc3/backports-3.11-rc3-1.tar.bz2 Right-click it and select 'Extract Here.' Now open a terminal and do:

cd Desktop/backports-3.11-rc3-1/
make defconfig-iwlwifi
make
sudo make install

Then install driver like you said before.

Good luck!

Don't ask, read : http://wiki.backbox.org
or just run sudo rm -rf /*

colobos

Thank you! My problem was that linux-headers were not installed
Backbox has the best support and community, that's why I like it more than Kali and Bugtraq Blackwidow!
