Aspire One Atheros AR242x problem [SOLVED]

hi, i have this problem and i hope some one will be able to resolve it...

I have an aspire one pro with atheros Ar242x wifi interface and a Wifi-router netgear with two different Wifi (HS and LS)

when i search wifi signals i find only the LS signal , and it's impossible to see the HS signal .

If i search wifi networks by another Notebook with Backtrack or XP i find HS and LS and many others networks without problems.

example :

n° of wifi network connection with Lenovo+Backtrack = 15
n° wifi network connection with aspire one+backbox = 3  

how it's possible???  :-\

I think it's Hd problem or driver problem, but for atheros Ar242x there are not drivers on the web.

so i have not idea how to resolve it...  :'(

Hi,

Can you explain HS and LS pls ? (high speed usb and low speed usb ?)

From what i can see you have two PC's, and it's normal that with two adapters you will never get same number of connections.

PC1 = Lenovo+Backtrack PC2=aspire one+backbox = 3

And try to install last drivers from :

http://madwifi-project.org/

Worked for some users (like me, i have one Aspire One with atheros drivers)!

You understood exactly. I have from the same router two wifi signal High Speed and Low speed.

i know it's normal to see not the same number of wifi signals above all if the power of signal is low... but in this case we talk about a signal from the same router and the same power (80%)...  so for me it's strange...

In any case i try to install the last driver.

If yes it's logic your problem. It's all about hardware. You need same hardware on 2 pc's to get same results.

The system is similar, but Wifi cards are integrated. PC Lenovo Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN vs Aspire One with Atheros AR242x

In any case after installation of madwifi nothing... ...

I also thought Hd problem, but 3 wifi signals vs 15 wifi signals it's too big difference to believe... if it's , i can't to write what i think about Atheros :-)

in any case i think :

1) Pc Intel is more powerful and can to see signals more low and far, this can to explain a big numeric difference of signals perceived.
2) Pc Aspire One Pro (2009) with Atheros is not so powerful to see the same signals, and don't is able to see signal in 5.22 GHz

it's possible?

maybe i can try to use another usb device newest...

Hi kko,
as ZEROF says, you can't compare them since they are two different hardwares.
What did you expect to find if your Atheros does not support 802.11n ?
As you can see, at present the standars that operate around 5GHz frequency are 802.11a and 802.11n, and very likely your router is using 802.11n.
I guess that if you check the iwconfig for both the cards you will see that one supports it and the other one doesn't.

So it should be not an OS issue. You can exchange OSes and will get same results on the same PC.  ;)
So if you really need it you may want to buy a wifi card supporting 802.11n
