Hello - I've been updating by the Software Updater and my version says 4.5 but I'm on Linux 3.16.0-59 not 4.2.  Where did I go wrong?

BackBox Linux 4.5 \n \l

Distributor ID:   Ubuntu
Description:   Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS
Release:   14.04
Codename:   trusty
Linux 3.16.0-59-generic #79~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 18 15:39:06 UTC 2016

thanks

Hi,

If you are using virtual box or vmware it's better to stay with that kernel, if not you can break something. If not you just need to read forum post or blog post about BackBox Linux 4.5 released and you will find your answer, don't be lazy :).

Don't ask, read : http://wiki.backbox.org
or just run sudo rm -rf /*

xxx@backbox:~$ sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic-lts-wily linux-image-generic-lts-wily linux-signed-generic-lts-wily linux-signed-image-generic-lts-wily

The upgrade process went fine. and I can open Firefox and browse the web fine.  But when I start Anonymous to browse anonymously Firefox never loads pages and times out. Also I am unable to ping any websites in anonymous mode such as google.com.   Ping replies with "unknown host google.com"

thx

Hi,

I don't know, for me it's working. You can't ping because traffic is routed, but you can surf and use tools. You can always install Tor browser.

Don't ask, read : http://wiki.backbox.org
or just run sudo rm -rf /*

Are you running the i386 or 64 update?

I'm up and browsing Anonymously.    I had to turn my Gufw firewall off.  Some ports or something must have changed.  I'll check the firewall issue.

Thanks

ZEROF

Man you never said that you are using firewall. It's normal that you can't use Anonymous if you don't open few ports like 9050, 80, 443 etc..
