Hi,

1. Did you saw your 1st post ? Use 640x480 image size pls. I don't want to reupload for you every time.
2. Check your ISO file, maybe bad MD5 hash (but i don't think so)
3. You can run BBox with VMWare player for free.

What i can say you this is not only BackBox issue, and your topic title need to be "ata 5 Sata Link down". Read this or search google for that error :

1. Sorry bout that. I thought the image would automatically re-size but I guess not.
2. I have. All matches and checks out.
3. I want to dual partition it on my laptop. Unfortunately both VMWare and VirtualBox do not offer the proper wifi connectivity used for WiFi scanning and brute forcing.

From the link you have sent me, it seems that I can't install Backbox due to my motherboard being basically incompatible. Is there anything at all that I can do?

It's hard rock problem as you can see, hope that you have system backup. If you are Windows 7 user maybe you can try to fix this in few steps.

1. Install gparted on Windows.
2. Run gparted in check hard disk flag. Under flags for the HD, set it to boot.
3. Take your Windows 7 repair dvd and use repair mode.
4. Run BackBox install disk.

And how many hard disk you have ? Can you use (buy) new hard disk ? Did you try to reinstall Windows ?

My Windows 7 Installation is fine, and I have partitioned a 20GB volume for Backbox
I have another hard drive, but the issue is with backbox simply not booting and timing out. I got the ata link down with another pentesting distro based on ubuntu. Standard Ubuntu installs and runs fine, and Backtrack works fine too, but no matter what I do with this distro it simply wont load up and let me install it. I've ried many methods and tools to install it, but still no luck.

I'm not kernel expert, hope that others will see this topic and help you to enable some options in kernel if that can solve this issue.

Sorry !

Sorry !

Its ok.

I was thinking, is there any way I can get an earlier version of Backbox, like 2.01 or something and see if I can get that one installed and then just download and update all the repos and tools via dist upgrade?

rushone2010

Still can't get past this. Anyone else having this issue or know a fix?

New BackBox 3 comes soon, maybe with new kernel you will have luck.

probably you have some problem with your controller, pls check the controller from BIOS and see if it is enabled or not....

The sata controller plug can be caused from several issues, such as bad hard drive, memory, or kernel bug as well...

After having checked the BIOS if it doesn't work, just get any live ubuntu to start and give us the output of the following command:
dmesg | grep -i sata
