I have backbox on a usb to boot and test on a laptop i have. works great out of the box. when i run upgrade it upgrade ALOT lol.
Anyways, when unpacking and applying the kernel (I do not have that computer in front of me to see) it fails. upon rebooting, i am spammed with crash reports.
I have attempted to send the report, but it sends to ubuntu i believe on launchpad which the page is no longer there. Upon doing any other updates, as in apt-get install yadadee (random name) it tries to install the kernel again which fails again. I will try and gather more info when i am in front of the computer again. I am doing it from a usb with persistence. i have tried reinstalling the image on the usb and starting from scratch, and i have tried other methods of install on the usb, i.e. usb creator in winblows. just curious if anyone has had issues like this.

Also, on a side not, is there any way to update the image on the website a little? seems pretty far behind on the updates and this would also help my problem if the downloaded 3.13 was not 5 months behind :P just sayin lol

also x2, i hate to post another thread just for this. I am curious if the network manager should be disabled to do proper mon0 router tests in backbox. I remember in kali (or backtrack 5?) it would recommend services to close due to the possibility of conflicting results/performance? Should anything be done before using monitor mode?

Hi traveler,
i haven't had such a issue recently, and we had no other reports... you really should provide the log for apt and dpkg (use a pastebin website for that, and start pasting just from the date you started having problems.)
Regarding the iso, i may agree with you. But this should be carefully evaluated, since i guess it will cost additional work and time to the team.
About the monitor mode, it's always a good thing to put any kind of network managers down and do things by hand. That way you will have full control of what you are doing and possibly no conflicts.

Hope you'll solve the problem.
Bye.

ok i pretty sure i have it rebuilt correctly and most things in the correct place. I receive no error with updating anything (with kernels or openvas).

Now though, I have a issue with openvas starting lol.  Well, more specifically the Openvas Scanner. I have had this issue before and just wiped the system instead. I dont wanna wipe the system again. rather learn to fix it.

I have posted this before, but the error is this:

[Starting OpenVAS Scanner: base gpgme-Message: Setting GnuPG homedir to '/etc/openvas/gnupg'
base gpgme-Message: Using OpenPGP engine version '1.4.11'
syntax error, unexpected '.'
Parse error at or near line 89
openvassd.
Starting OpenVAS Manager: ERROR.

I will be more than glad to provide any info to help figure this out. Although you guys (girls?) may have to tell me what to do. Seems to me, the problem is more in the openpgp thing. I have tried to open  "/etc/openvas/gnupg" which just opens a blank document so that didnt help.  Any thoughts?  I was looking for the unexpected "." but since the document was blank, nothing to see. Would this possibly be in the script or is there some post install steps i need to take to make openvas work?

edit:  i found these two links on the forum, i will see if following these steps will help and reply back.

edit 2: the post guide does not help my opengpg error   :(    I am to much of a newb to know what exploits out of so many to use with services without my open vas  !!!

well shitz.

its working. The start script is still showing the errors, and failed to start yet when i said screw it, and just opened it up, it went to the log in page for openvas. i correctly logged in and seems to be working.

either way, here is a log from openvas-check-setup
