BB 3 live cd network manager question [SOLVED]

So I understand I am bound to recieve a few smart ass replies for this question which I am ok with, but I just have to ask it because I can't seem to find an answer anywhere....so please at least be helpful while being a smart ass.

I am new to BB. (obviously)
I can't connect to wifi. How the hell can I get this thing to bring up the wifi? I get a box on startup that says networks are available but when I open network connections I see nothing but one wired connection. There is not Ethernet plugged in, I am having the issue at multiple wifi spots. I have to wifi cards, one is the built in card on a shitty acer aspire, and also an Alfa awus036h. I'm running on a live cd (which I also figured out you can't run as root?! What's the point behind that? ???)

Oh and yes it is picking up both cards. Iwconfig shows them both.
