Hi!

So I started a computer programming course in September and just got done my first trimester. Seen a bunch of stuff and I'm kinda obsessed with Linux atm, haha. My college program specializes us in video game design but I'm really looking into computer security as a career choice because I don't feel like programming Poker machines after 2 years of exploring such a rich subject as computer programming (my program is sponsored by 2 companies in the VLT/Casino industry). So yeah, I've been looking around for a good Linux distro for weeks and finally found BackBox. Looks super interesting  :D

Now my question. Should I partition my hard drive (with win7 on atm) or virtualize BackBox? Thanks a bunch!

Hi whiskyrock,

1st welcome to our community. If you look to make pentests time to time, all what you need is vmware player (free option) and BBox ISO, and i propose you to install system inside vmware, that is how i do.

Happy hacking !

Don't ask, read : http://wiki.backbox.org
or just run sudo rm -rf /*

Hmmm,

I would like to do pentests, but I would also take the opportunity to master Linux as a whole as I've only been using it for 3 months now. I should mention that prior to September, my only real computer programming knowledge was a bit of terminal which I basically copy/pasted (didn't even know I was programming to be honest, haha.) Talked to a friend also and he said that businesses use VMware alot so it'd be good to know it... thoughts? ... thanks for the reply and greetings for from Canada :-D

...terminal on my Mac that is.

First of all typing code in a terminal is not coding lol secondly you are right many companies use VMWare  software but if you have only been using linux for a few months then I suggest you either start reading up on it or start using a distro based on whatever code language it is that you are learning!  ;)
